Christijan Albers, like many of his fellow F1 drivers, started his racing career in Karting.

 

In 1997, at the age of 18, he won the Dutch National Karting Championship (ICA 100cc) along with the Formula Ford 1800 Championship in Holland and he also, won the Renault Megane Marlboro Championship. If that wasn’t enough he won the ‘Autosport’ magazine, Young Driver of the Year award.

 

In 1998 he moved into the German F3 Championship and finished fifth overall with two wins and five podiums. 1999 he remain in the German F3 Championship and became champion with an impressive six wins and ten pole positions.

 

In 2000 Albers moved in the F3000 International Championship with European Arrows and was Mark Webbers teammate.

 

After a disappointing season in F3000, Albers switched to DTM with Mercedes-Benz in 2001. He also had his first Formula One test with Minardi in 2001 and was made, test and reserve driver for Minardi.

 

In 2002 he continued to compete in DMT with Team Rosberg. Albers also, continued his test duties with Minardi.  

 

In 2003, Christijan remain in DTM but moved to Team HWA, he finished as runner up to Bernd Schneider, despite being the driver with the most wins, he missed out on the championship by only four points. But he was named the Best Touring Car Driver in the World and also as One of the 50 Best Drivers in the World by ‘Autosport’ magazine.

 

In 2004 He stayed in the DMT Championship but, he let again swapped teams, this time he was driving for Team DaimlerChryler. He finished third overall, with one win and six podiums. He tested for Minardi and Jordan F1 and also tested for Walker Racing Champ Car.

 

On the 23rd December 2004, Christijan got the perfect Christmas present, as it was announced that Albers would be driving for Minardi in 2005. Since then Albers has been impressing his loyal Dutch Fans and Jordan F1 who still what Albers to drive for them.
